OVERVIEW

The university is ready to produce graduates of various academic fields as it is equipped with qualified lecturers, learning facility and equipment. Finally, it recognizes the importance of offering a Bachelor of Science program in Veterinary in addressing the country’s shortage of veterinarians.

Thailand is predominantly an agricultural country and animal husbandry is considered as one of the major industries for national consumption and exportation. Thailand also aims to position itself as the food source of the world. This poses as a challenge in complying with the international standard that imposes strict health related regulations.
Therefore exportation of meat products must meet international standard and requires a comprehensive inspection process in the production before reaching international consumers. Furthermore, because of the current situation of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases such as Zoonosis diseases, it is essential to have highly trained and qualified veterinarians to provide veterinary services, preventive measures and reduce the risk of infectious diseases.

However, it is widely accepted that there is a shortage of veterinarians in the country today. Especially in the rural areas that always encounter infectious diseases of epidemic proportion and still lack the sufficient numbers of veterinarians who can provide immediate support. This issue is being addressed by the implementation of veterinary mobile support from the central government which is still not sufficient in coping with the problem.

The situation projects a direct impact on the population’s health and the global market’s trust on Thailand’s meat products which ultimately affect the national economy. This is why Western university recognizes the ongoing issue and therefore is committed by its missions to produce highly trained and qualified veterinarians, to conduct scientific research and to provide academic services to the society while upholding the promotion of arts and culture.
